Citi Field and Mets vs Marlins

The little that I know about baseball could probably fit in a thimble with room to spare (I also know very little about sewing). However, living in New York City I was aware that both the Mets and Yankees recently built new stadiums. In early September 2011, I was offered tickets to a Mets vs Marlins game at the new Citi Field stadium and sensing a great opportunity for architectural and sport photography decided to attend.

The stadium’s brick exterior and many arches were very beautiful from the outside and the mixture of lighting, metal, and stone in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda somehow combined to create a feeling of warmth. A short escalator ride up to the seating levels revealed clear views of the field and plenty of dining options (Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, etc.). After walking about a bit, I settled on The Mex Burger from Keith’s Grill and it was actually pretty good. The only complaint would be that the bun seemed a bit stale and I didn’t really care for the kettle chips (but then again I don’t like anybody’s kettle chips so that shouldn’t be held as against them).

All in all, it was a great experience.
